Technology arm: Robots are becoming ever more present in the warehouse

Robotic technology in the warehouse has caused an upheaval in efficiency leading to better throughputs and benefits for employees too. An now, as the supply chain faces a  multitude of disruptions, robotic technology is ever more pertinent to the success of a logistics operation.

It's no surprise that with the growth of e-commerce that warehouses are becoming denser and space utilisation is key. That is where shuttle robotic technologies become important. Hongming Chen, President of GRS International explains that high density storage has become more common as warehouses become higher and the storage capacity available as a percentage of floor space is greater; "in this instance, shuttle technology and picking robots are key, especially in the context of e-commerce. Picking and sorting technologies have also become more developed, allowing machines to process orders with efficiency and precision, rather than relying purely on human labour."
